The Golden Triangle Region is located in Northeast Mississippi and is home to over 7.8 million acres of privately owned timberland in a 75-mile radius.
Within that radius, there are existing sawtimber mills, however, these mills own enough land to provide up to 90% of the timber processed each year. As a result, over 4 million acres of privately grown timber are not being utilized.
It is estimated that this underutilized timber can feed over 10 additional mills in the region.
Pine timber in the dark areas of this map is growing twice as fast as it’s being harvested (See the Golden Triangle in NE Mississippi). The lightest areas of the map indicate harvest rates about equal to growth. (Source: Forisk 2022 Timber Market Rankings Study)
